  • I have been the president of Jerrol’s Book & Office Supply Co. for the past 14 years. As the father of a 10-year-old son with autism, I know from personal experiences the difficulty and joy that my family faces while living with autism. This event is special to me because I know what it is like to go out in the community and be around individuals that do not understand the lifestyle in which autism brings.

I serve on the Kittitas County Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities Board and in 2005 I helped to create the Kittitas County Autism support group. Now being the support groups coordinator I hear the “inside story” of autism and I want to help get these people’s experiences out into the community. With the prominence of Jerrol’s in Ellensburg, I have reached out to individuals in Central Washington and now I am trying to take my message to a larger audience. The auction is hopefully going to help me do this.

For me, this is an opportunity to help connect the individuals in our community and make life a little bit better for everyone.

  • I am currently a senior majoring in Public Relations at Central Washington University, in the pursuit of becoming an event coordinator. I am a member of the CWU Public Relations Students Society of America, standing as the director of the student run firm, Central Communications. To complete my cooperative education I am working with Jerrol’s Book and Supply Co. on their 60th anniversary events.

The event I am working the closest with is the “Autism in our Community” Awareness Auction. This event hits close to home for me because I have an extended family member that was recently diagnosed with autism and it is also allowing me to explore my dream of planning events. The connection between the two is a perfect opportunity for my internship.

I am hoping my work with Jerrol's Book and Supply Co. will lead me in the correct direction for my future career. Helping me to gain references, build an in-depth contact list, and to increase my knowledge of the small details an event includes. Our goal of gaining local, regional, and nationalmedia attention will hopefully help me in my future with understanding who to talk to, the process of getting theirattention, and putting my name out there for the world to see.
