Clues & Indicators That You Will See In Your Own Community

Person on the Autism Spectrum MAY display one or more of the following—

  1. Use of a “sing song” voice with or without actual words.
  2. Total lack of speech
  3. Actions that are unusual or socially unacceptable.
    • Grabbing a persons cane and not letting go
    • “flopping on to the floor”
    • Out bursts or yelling at random times
    • Grabbing a persons arm, clothing, or merchandise as they walk by
    • Not looking at you or others directly or looking at odd angles
    • Disinterest in others
    • May invade your space or prefer to be farther away form than typical
    • Interest in ceiling lights or fans
    • Dressed unusually or inappropriately
    • Laughing or giggling inappropriately

    May show obsessive or repetitive behaviors of be fixated on a topic or object

  4. Interrupting conversions or constantly redirecting them to their own interests.
  5. Parents or aids focused only on the individual, no casual conversions or shopping
